Monster Cookie Returns April 28

The ride takes place on Sunday, April 28.

VOLUNTEER: Several people are still needed to help fill roles on Saturday and Sunday. You can move supplies or serve as a route monitor. See the complete list of opportunities on the Salem Bicycle Club website or contact coordinator Jillian Trinkaus by email..

SIGN UP AND RIDE: Club members are welcome to register and ride. It's a fundraiser, after all. Go to the website and sign up!

AND JOIN US FOR THE VOLUNTEER RIDE: Club members will be pedaling the new route at 9 a.m., Saturday, April 20. Come along for the ride.

Oregon Cycling Book
Debuts at April 8 Meeting
"Cycling Across Oregon," a new book by travel writer and club member Dan Shryock, will be presented for the first time during the club's General Meeting on April 8 at Painters Hall in South Salem.
"Cycling Across Oregon" follows a group of friends as they set out to ride each of Oregon's 17 scenic bikeways in a single year. Dan will talk about the group's experiences and stories found along the way. This is an exploration of rural Oregon using the scenic bikeways as a road map.
The General Meeting begins at 6 p.m. Painters Hall is located at 3911 Village Center Drive SE in Salem.

Five Questions
Here's something new in Spokes. We are asking five questions of a featured club member each month. Our first bike rider is Jakey Ross. Jakey is a lifelong Salem resident who has been riding bikes since she was 9 years old. She's been a Salem Bicycle Club member for nearly 30 years and has served in a variety of roles including on the rides committee and as a member of the Monster Cookie planning team.

Here are Jakey's Five Questions.

Q1: What is your favorite local ride?
My favorite local rides are the club's Wednesday Turner Route and the North Howell Route.

Q2: What is the best out-of-town ride you've ever experienced?
I have loved out-of-town and out-of-country rides and naming a favorite is nearly impossible. We’ve ridden in France, Italy, Austria, Germany, and Quebec.  Most of these rides were self-supported using route guides.

Q3: Do you prefer to go uphill, downhill, or keep it level?
I do not prefer hills, but seem strong enough to get to the top pretty quickly and I enjoy flat rides till they get boring.

Q4: What's the best part of being a club member?
I gladly belong to and support the bike club for the camaraderie, for the well-planned rides, for the exercise, and to just get out with such good friends.

Q5: Why do you ride?
I ride bikes because biking is fun. Ride on!
