Monster Cookie Defies Rain
More than 560 cyclists rode away from McNary High School on Sunday, April 28, to join the 48th Monster Cookie Metric Century Bicycle Ride.

The event, the Salem Bicycle Club's top fundraiser each year, followed a new route this year. McNary High School served as the start/finish and riders pedaled east into Marion County with stops at the Willamette Pie Company, Mt. Angel Middle School, and Trinity School.

Early review of registrations showed that 562 of 586 registered riders showed up despite cold, rainy weather. And, 86 percent of them were non-club members.

Support Salem's Ironman Race
The bike club is staffing support station No. 2 during the Ironman 70.3 Oregon competition and volunteers are still needed on July 21. at the Ironman website or contact Tim Newman via email.

Monster Cookie in the Rearview Mirror

The hard work paid off, says club president Tim Newman. Volunteers created a new, hopefully safer,  route and provided everything riders could need. "Thank you for giving your time, your patience, your smiles, and more than anything, your love of biking to make this Monster Cookie Re-Imagined ride."

Thank You for the Support
Thank you to the many people who attended the first-ever presentation my new book, "Cycling Across Oregon," on April 8. Thanks, too, for the positive feedback from those who have read it. I didn't expect my work to be embraced so quickly.

For those who could not attend, let me tell you about the book. "Cycling Across Oregon" follows a group of friends as we set out to ride each of Oregon's 17 scenic bikeways in a single year. This is not a guidebook. This is a collection of stories and discoveries found while exploring of rural Oregon using the scenic bikeways as a road map.
